The lack of first-round depth at many positions has inspired a lot of this. Teams in the middle of the round are looking to go up for impact or down for depth.
Not sure they would pay THAT price, but if Austin slips past No. 8 unclaimed then it could get interesting.
Fair chance of that. Depends what the team gets with the first pick and what teams are offering.
Kenny Vaccaro, Jonathan Cyprien and J.J. Wilcox are the guys they really like, according to Jim Thomas.
Austin is the one WR certain to make DeSean Jackson-like plays. He could help the team in a lot of ways. But I still think Givens has a chance to be a lead WR this season.
Yeah, there is a "flunk" potential there. He could be great or he could wash out. As one scout said, he has Randy Moss upside in terms or talent . . . and Moss-like potential for attitude.
Personally, no. He would be a luxury for the Rams at that spot. Other needs are too great.
Many teams are in love with that burst and elusiveness.
The latter. This draft just lacks depth at many, many positions.
No. Many teams covet Austin. The game is changing. The spread offense is making teams re-think the size thing.
For one year, the 2013 Steven Jackson would do way more damage in the passing game.
Not at that level, no. Don't forget big Rok Watkins is still in the Rams mix. Could be a nice payoff from that later pick in '12.
Second round . . . Don't think so. His stock shot him late.
Probably, but that is a massive price to pay. Rams still need some quantity in this draft.
Vaccaro. But Jim Thomas tells us to brace for the Rams taking both guys, Vaccaro then Ogletree. Not sure Fisher could pass on Alec if he is there at No. 22.
The Rams would probably take Hopkins. Football staff seems to like him for this offense.
The Rams need better coverage at safety. Most experts would applaud his addition at No. 16. Looks like a good value there.
As I noted earlier, the trade-up becomes more likely if Austin would somehow slip closer to No. 16 and lower the price.
From Twitter: Jay Glazer, who broke Eric Fisher-going-1st, just said on Fox Sports radio that DJ Hayden of Houston will be the first CB off the board
Sure. But there are some decent WR/RB options later in the draft. If the Rams do go "D" in the first round, it'll be because Austin is off the board and the other prospects aren't first-round worthy.
From Don Banks: "Every time in past 2 days I asked NFL source why Fisher over Joeckel for KC, was told Fisher's "nasty streak'' as a blocker made difference."
